    8. Synopsis Widespread concepts and tasks of communication can be described with a more or less uniform theory. The aim of this subject is to introduce basic concepts and mind of this theory. It deals with basic concepts of decision- and estimation theory, of information theory and of digital communication. Application of these concepts is illustrated by examples taken from radio communication and optical communication. Main topics discussed are: Mathematical introduction: basic notions of stochastic processes; the complex envelope. Basics
    of decision theory and estimation theory. Transmission of digital and analog signals over analog channels. Basics of information theory. Properties of channels, channel coding, channel capacity.
